The CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a highly-regarded qualification for anyone wanting to advance their studies and/or career in early childhood learning.

Course Requirements

To achieve a CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, a total of 15 units of competency must be completed, 12 core units, plus 3 elective units.

Practical Placement

To complete the practical component of this diploma of education, all students will be required to spend 280 hours in an approved early childhood learning service environment, assigned to them by our course assessors.

Prior to placement, students must have a current Working With Children Check.

This practical placement is designed to help students understand the needs of child development and give them real-life insight into what working in education and care will involve. This is where students will gain vital, on-the-job skills enabling them to confidently work in an early learning centre. The practical placement isn’t designed to overwhelm students and course trainers will be there every step of the way to provide assistance and support. Students are asked to take it as an opportunity to expand on their acquired skill set and apply what they’ve learnt in a genuine care & education environment while accompanying other established childhood educators.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:

  • hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or
  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Individuals will need to complete and clear a Working with Children Check.

  • A suitability discussion to affirm students’ needs and desired outcomes
  • A Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN) to ensure students have the basic skills necessary for completion of course

Qualification Pathway

If a student chooses to use their CHC50121 Diploma to further their studies, they can do so by having course credit transferred to a university or higher education institution such as pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies) or similar.

This Diploma is an essential qualification to have, prior to commencing further study. It will provide students with the background needed to understand the basics of childhood care and education and instill in them the competencies needed to work in an actual educative setting.
