Course Description

The CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally accredited qualification. It is the minimum requirement to gain employment in an approved early childhood service and to become a qualified educator.

Course Requirements

To achieve a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, a total of 18 units of competency must be completed, 15 core units, plus 3 elective units.

Through a combination of core and elective units delivered in class, by distance and  workplace-based learning, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work as an educator in an early childhood service. There are 18 units, 15 of them being core units and the rest of them, electives.

To achieve a certificate 3 in early childhood education qualification (sometimes referred to as certificate 3 in childcare), participants must complete a total number of 18 units. The elective units selected must be relevant to the qualification and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Course requirements work in cohesion to ensure that participants who gain a childcare cert 3 have the capacity to work across a range of early childhood education environments while adhering to set regulations and quality standards.

Practical Placement

To achieve competency in this qualification, students are required to undertake 120 hours of supervised Practical Placement. Our Practical Placement Team will arrange a suitable, regulated child care service for you which caters for children aged between 0-6 years of age.

When it comes to placements, all students enrolled in CHC30113 need to either be employed or volunteering in an ACECQA approved early childhood service. This is required to complete the practical components of the cert 3 in early childhood.

A minimum of 120 hours of work experience is required to be completed in early childhood education and care service, with 0-6 years old children. FBT team may be able to support you to arrange this placement if you don’t already have one. Students must have a current Working with Children Check prior to starting placement.

Entry Requirements

Individuals will need to complete and clear a Working with Children Check.

FBT’s enrolment process is designed to ensure students enrol into a suitable qualification and includes:

  • A suitability discussion to affirm students’ needs and desired outcomes
  • A Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN) to ensure students have the basic skills necessary for completion of course
