This qualification in Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Educators who complete a Cert III in Childcare use a range of well-developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is delivered as a combination of classroom training and practical placement to give you hands-on experience. You will be able to gain first-hand experience across a range of early childhood education environments and age groups (babies, toddlers and childhood) to prepare you for success in the early childhood industry.

Course Description

The CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally accredited qualification. It is the minimum requirement to gain employment in an approved early childhood service and to become a qualified educator.

Course Requirements

To achieve a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, a total of 17 units of competency must be completed, 15 core units, plus 2 elective units.

Through a combination of core and elective units delivered in class, by distance and  workplace-based learning, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work as an educator in an early childhood service.

A certificate 3 in early childhood education qualification (sometimes referred to as certificate 3 in childcare), will allow you to support children’s wellbeing, and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of well-developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others.

Course requirements work in cohesion to ensure that participants who gain a childcare cert 3 have the capacity to work across a range of early childhood education environments while adhering to set regulations and quality standards.

Practical Placement

To achieve competency in this qualification, students are required to undertake 160 hours of supervised Practical Placement. Our Practical Placement Team will arrange a suitable, regulated child care service for you which caters for children aged between 0-6 years of age.

When it comes to placements, all students enrolled in CHC30121 need to either be employed or volunteering in an ACECQA approved early childhood service. This is required to complete the practical components of the cert 3 in early childhood.

A minimum of 160 hours of work experience is required to be completed in early childhood education and care service, with 0-6 years old children. FBT team may be able to support you to arrange this placement if you don’t already have one. Students must have a current Working with Children Check prior to starting placement.

Entry Requirements

Individuals will need to complete and clear a Working with Children Check.

FBT’s enrolment process is designed to ensure students enrol into a suitable qualification and includes:

  • A suitability discussion to affirm students’ needs and desired outcomes
  • A Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN) to ensure students have the basic skills necessary for completion of course
