What is a Traineeship?

A Traineeship is a structured program where learners are able to conduct their training on-the-job. This is different from the classroom because all the learning and assessment takes place in the workplace.

What traineeships do we provide?

First Base Training is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) working in partnership with the Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) helping Early Childhood services and Aged Care services meet new staffing requirements outlined in the National Quality Framework. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

We provide subsidised training under Smart and Skilled for new entrant trainees studying our courses:

Why should I do a Traineeship?

Traineeships enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills and experience relevant to their qualification in an interactive setting, through hands-on, practical training. Instead of sitting with trainers and students in a classroom learning theoretical information, Trainees can “learn by doing” in a real-life, active workplace where they can apply their skills directly. This can be a smoother way to transition into the workforce. There are incentives available to Employers who choose to upskill employees that are categorised as new entrants under the NSW Smart and Skilled Program.

What is a new entrant?

Only new entrant trainees are eligible for subsidised training (existing worker trainees do not qualify for subsidised training). To be classified as a new entrant trainee, they must have been employed in their current position for:

  • Less than 12 months of part-time or casual work
  • Less than 3 months of full-time work
How long will it take?

New entrant trainees may be employed in a full-time or part-time traineeship.

Please see below for a summary of the course duration for full-time versus part-time Traineeships:
